Our Explorer trips are geared for first time rafters, families with small children, and those searching for a mildly adventurous experience. A great introduction to rafting in the Rockies.

Lower Roaring Fork - A wonderful early season introduction into the world of whitewater rafting. We will be putting in near Carbondale and traveling in the shadow of 12,953 ft. Mount Sopris. The water is rated a Class II, with a section of Class III rapids named "Cemetery" thrown in for a splash of excitement. A 30 minute drive from Aspen, we will spend approximately 2 hours on the water. Snack included.

  • Afternoon trip departs 1:00 p.m. and returns 5:00 p.m.

Grizzly Creek, Colorado River - A wonderful choice for families or those not sure about the Shoshone rapids. With this option, Mom and Dad can run the Shoshone rapids and, afterwards the kids will join you at Grizzly Creek. This trip by-passes the larger rapids of the "Shoshone" trip (see listing under "Expeditions Series"), but still includes the epic scenery of Glenwood Canyon.

EXPEDITION

The Expedition series comprises our most popular selection of whitewater river trips. These trips are ideal for first time rafters, and still provide all the thrills experienced rafters are looking for. A true Colorado adventure experience!

Upper Roaring Fork - Our backyard run! A great way to explore a side of the valley most will never experience. A solid Class III run that is a thrill for beginners and experts alike, with rapids such as "Toothache" and "Toilet Bowl". The put in is only 15 minutes from Aspen, making it the local's favorite. Snack included.

  • Running season generally May-early July
  • Morning trip departs 8:30 a.m. and returns 12:30 p.m.
  • Afternoon trip departs 1:00 p.m. and returns 5:00 p.m.
  • Minimum age 10 at low water / call for high water age limit.
  • Booties provided

Shoshone, Colorado River - This trip is our most popular 1/2 day excursion. Imagine riding the awesome whitewater of the Colorado River through a deep canyon of red rock. A classic mid-summer adventure that features everything from Class III rapids like "Man-eater" and "Tombstone", to the wild west scenery of Glenwood Canyon.
  • Running season generally Mid July-September.
  • Morning trip departs 8:00 a.m. and returns 2:00 p.m. Lunch provided
  • Afternoon trip departs 1:00 p.m. and returns 6:00. Snack included.
  • Minimum age 6


Triple Shoshone, Colorado River - Rapids, Rapids, Rapids!! We start at the Shoshone put in on the Colorado and shoot the rapids. Then, instead of continuing on through Glenwood Canyon, we take the boats out and head back to the top of the river. Two more laps through the white water will make it the most exciting day on the Colorado!

  • Running season, July - mid September
  • Departs at 1:00 p.m. and returns at 6:00 p.m.
  • Snack included.
  • Minimum age is 8 years old.

Browns Canyon, Arkansas River- Hands down the most popular full day whitewater run in all of Colorado. This is a full day adventure, with incredible Class III rapids on the Arkansas River. Extraordinary views of some of Colorado's highest peaks, a breathtaking drive over Independence Pass, and the thrill of "Zoom Flume" and "Seidel's Suckhole" will satisfy the adventurous heart in everyone. Lunch included.

EXTREME

Riff Raft Extreme is the locals choice for Class IV and V whitewater rafting trips in the area. These trips require previous boating experience, active participation, and a truly adventurous attitude.

Slaughterhouse Falls, Roaring Fork River - A true Class IV experience only minutes from downtown Aspen. We will wake you up in "Entrance Exam", drop you over "Slaughterhouse Falls" and blast you into a nonstop series of overhead swells. Not for the timid. This is the ultimate early season rafting in the Roaring Fork Valley. Previous rafting experience recommended. Snack Included.

  • Running season generally late May - early July.
  • Departs 8:00 a.m. and returns 11:00 p.m.
  • Departs 1:00 p.m. and returns 4:00 p.m.
  • Departs 5:00 p.m. and returns 8:00 p.m.
  • Minimum age 18
  • Wet suit, booties, & helmet provided.

Numbers - Arkansas Rivers (or new this year, DOUBLE Numbers!!) - Classic 1/2 Day Class IV thrill ride for those people who want the next step up from the Shoshone Rapids. This trip involves several miles of non-stop rapids and technical boulder gardens. Riff Raft's top guides will involve you in a non-stop aneraboic whitewater experience and get you back to Aspen in plenty of time for some afternoon golf or tennis. Previous rafting experience is recommended. And don't forget to ask about the DOUBLE numbers. Lunch included.

  • Running season generally May - August
  • Departs 7:30 a.m. and returns 1:30
  • Minimum age 18
  • Wet suit, booties, & helmet provided

Pine Creek / Numbers - "Maytag", "Pine Creek Rapid", "Widowmaker". These names will live in your memory long after you leave the strong upper Arkansas River. A solid Class IV trip with a boiling Class V section right in the middle to spice things up. A true test of your personal stamina and adventurous spirit. Previous rafting experience is mandatory. Lunch included.

  • Running season generally May - August
  • Departs 8:30 a.m. and returns 4:30
  • Minimum age 16
  • Wet suit, booties, & helmet provided

Gore Canyon - The Pinnacle! Nationally renowned for it's brutal rapid sections, this trip is to be feared and respected. The only way through this section is with total commitment and teamwork. You will negotiate such infamous rapids as "Gore", "Tunnel Falls", and "Kirschbaumer", if you dare! Considerable rafting experience required. Lunch included.


  • Running Season generally late July - Sept.
  • Departs 7:30 a.m. and returns 6:30 p.m.
  • Minimum age 18 with advanced rafting experience
  • Wet suit, booties, & helmet provided.

  • Riff Raft Extreme will add a per person wilderness user fee/tax.
  • Guides, lifejackets, lunch or snack, and transportation are provided on all trips.
  • Children's rates apply to age 12 and under.
  • All trip times are approximate and could possibly vary due to road, river and other conditions.

  • Helmets, wetsuits and booties are provided and required to be worn on extreme whitewater trips.
